We want to offer and promote wholesome food products that have minimal environmental impact, are authentic and traceable, that use the best of traditional know how, are healthy, simple, innovative and artisan.

I am Organic

I AM ORGANIC is a social enterprise with strong ethical commitment in terms of a community approach and capacity building, support of small holder farmers and reduction of poverty, biodiversity, protection of wildlife and the environment, valuing cultures and traditions as well as matters of health and lifestyle.

It is also our aim to support adults and children to become food literate and conversant with food systems. We want to find creative ways of engaging them to help raise awareness and increase knowledge in organic farming focusing on: how food is grown; how food nourishes us; how organic farming impacts the environment and relates to resilience to climate change; and how food is prepared, marketed and sold.

Our motivation is to establish programs around agroecology, urban gardening and celebrate real and holistic food.

We want to offer and promote wholesome food products that have minimal environmental impact, are authentic and traceable, that use the best of traditional know how, are healthy, simple, innovative and artisan.

The owners of I Am Organic are also the owners of Wild Flour Bakery and Café, which was established in Dar es Salaam in April 2018. The Café had already started sourcing organic ingredients for its food items and products from its onset. Therefore, it was a natural transition to take on the new project of I Am Organic.

Partnerships

In 2019, a partnership with SWISSAID was established in order to set up the first certified organic shop in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania in collaboration with Sustainable Agriculture Tanzania (SAT) and the Tanzania Organic Agricultural Movement (TOAM). We source organic produce from farmer groups in Mtwara, Lindi, Morogoro and Bagamoyo, who have been trained in organic agriculture by SWISSAID.

Together with our partners we want to improve livelihoods of smallholder organic farmers. In addition, we want to find innovative ways to empower and inspire women and youth to be part of this growing movement by creating consistent markets for organic produce.

SWISSAID is an International Non-Governmental Organization with headquarters in Switzerland and programmes in nine countries including Tanzania since the 1970s. Among others, SWISSAID is a keen supporter and promoter of agroecology.  SWISSAID believes in long term collaborations with national and local organizations, founded on common goals and ideals, to bring lasting changes to rural communities. As part of its 2019-2024 Country Programme, SWISSAID Tanzania is mainly active in Southern Tanzania and focuses on enhanced agroecological production and productivity, value addition and marketing, institutional strengthening of farmer-based organizations, and research and advocacy for agroecology.
